Transformation
How can we change?
I practice a form of psychotherapy called Relational Gestalt. Translated from German, gestalt implies wholeness, or ‘to make whole’. Contemporary Gestalt therapists do not believe that fundamental change can happen until we accept our whole personhood. However, from the moment of conception we are born into–– and marinated in––social constructs, judgments, and cultural norms. Furthermore, many people have also experienced being discriminated against due to race, color, and sexual orientation just to name a few.
Many of us internalize traumatic experiences and messages from our environment into an idea about how we should be. Also, that we are not good enough as we are. A natural reaction hereof can be to suppress these painful experiences and socially unacceptable feelings––to cut off these undesired parts of ourselves. The problem being the more we try to change and be who we are not the more we stay the same….
In our therapeutic work together the exploration and integration of these fragmented parts will be essential to pave the way for any real change and transformation.
As transformation occurs it can bring you in alignment with your Authentic Self–– becoming your highest potential. It is a life with meaningful relationships, a life of greater purpose, clarity, and passion.
